Designer Liliam Higa’s jewelry blends the essence of traditional multi-cultural adornments with a sculptural modern aesthetic. Using artisan techniques from her Japanese heritage to echo the urban sprawl of her native São Paulo, LILLOT accessories layer organic materials such as açai seeds from the Amazon, sculpted natural clay, fossilized Petosky stones from Lake Michigan, Space Age beads from Japan and silk ropes with aged silver and bronze.

“People tend to think of precious as being just diamonds, but slowly-vanishing knowledge of artisan techniques passed down through the ages are equally precious. I create my pieces to directly connect our world to theirs.”

After graduating from Faculdade Santa Marcelina in São Paulo, Liliam studied at the University of Arts in the South of Japan, where she traveled the remote corners of the country learning from traditional craftsmen in small villages before founding LILLOT in New York City in 2007.
